HACK 19/11/99 - 19/12/99
Michael Dagostino, David Griggs, Michael Lindeman, Andrew Salter, Paul White and Jonathan Wilson have been exhibiting as a group for the past 2 years under Michael & Michael Visual Art Project Management. Their exhibition at Grey Matter Contemporary Art follows shows at First Draft and the Herringbone Gallery in Sydney, and at Smith + Stoneley in Queensland.
For their Grey Matter show Michael & Michael Visual Art Project Management adopt a knowlingly loose, almost apathetic, curatorial approach to exhibition making - a parody, a celebration and a rejection of a tightly curated show all in one. HACK undermines a tendency to overplay curatorial coherency when it comes to organising and evaluating the worth of a group show. This is reinforced when each artist's work is considered in isolation and readings start to splinter off in various directions.
HACK is a free-form curatorial shambles that occasionally loses control, but is always in good hands.
