David Musgrave and Mark Titchner
19/11/99 - 19/12/99

Grey Matter is pleased to present the first Australian exhibition of work by emerging UK artists David Musgrave and Mark Titchner. This exhibition provides Sydney with the chance to see some of the best and most current young British art being made at the moment. Both artists will be showing new wall drawings and works on paper.

David Musgrave's work has been described as meticulous, obsessive and 'a bit maths club'. His use of familiar materials and imagery often lull you into a false sense of recognition, but things aren't always what they first appear to be. Musgrave's work invariably calls for closer scrutiny and thought. His interest is in how the fictional world of images relates to the physical world of objects. Forthcoming exhibitions include The British Art Show 2000.

When Mark Titchner was four his parents left him alone in their living room. It had lime green and metallic wallpaper with an orange carpet. Mark ate a whole jar of pickled onions and spent the rest of the day throwing up. His work explores possible shifts in perception, consciousness and understanding through the use of a retro aesthetic and regurgitated utopian theories. Titchner has exhibited widely in London and Europe including 'Surfacing - Contemporary Drawing' at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, and solo shows at Vilma Gold Gallery and at One in the Other.

David Musgrave and Mark Titchner will both be in Sydney for the opening and to discuss their work.
